What kind of range is seen as 'acceptable' for a managed condition?

After months of being really badly debilitated I just knew I was getting better a couple of weeks ago, and my bloodwork from last fortnight's test has come back showing my ESR is on the way down at last BigGrin But my CRP is still going up and they are getting twitchy about it.

They tend to only use crp now since its apparantyly more representative of the inflammation, it should be less than 8 in a healthy person so that's the aim! We r all v different and my crp at 20 means I am crippled not high by many standards but for my body it obv is. I think if yours is rising you need more control they say it can increase risk of cardiovascular probs so worry more if its high. however if u feel better that's great perhaps ur crp will follow the ESR soon??

Hi Louisa- according to my little blue book where I record all my blood tests, the acceptable ranges for CRP are 0-5 mg/l

As Lizzie says the ESR is non-specific test for inflammation and so is not used as a key indicator at my clinic. Sorry this doesn't help much

In the early stages of getting your meds sorted it is a real juggling act as they will be trying to balance getting the best possible outcome which takes up to 3 months to become clear, versus side effects which each individual may or may not experience. If you feel better, then that is a crucial part of the process and it sometimes helps to keep a diary so you know how you currently compare with say a month or two back. I have a little book issued by my hospital so I can record all my results, and it really does help to make sense of it all.

Sorry I can't help more, but hang on in there and see how it progresses - it's still early days for you and things seem to be generally getting better so that's great - Sylvia xxx
